Why Interview Coaching?

1. I've interviewed a zillion people.  I'm already well versed on interviewing.

It requires a whole different skill set when you're the one being interviewed. It requires an entire shift in approach and interpersonal dynamics.

2. I'll just be honest and direct.

A successful interview requires more than simply well-answered questions. The interpersonal relationship that you develop during the process can be as important as the content of your message.

3. My credentials will get me the job.

Your credentials will only get you in the door. Credentials alone will not get you the job.

Hiring managers remember the interpersonal dynamics that took shape during the meeting. This is the critical factor that will determine if you are invited back for a second round or ultimately get the job.

4. I'll buy a book on interviewing skills.

A book may be helpful in increasing your knowledge to a limited degree. However, there is no "one size fits all" book that will be a magic bullet for your next interview.

Every job interview is different. As a candidate, you are also different on every interview that you have. Therefore, there is no one template that you can use on the next interview.

A knowledgeable interview coach can create a different strategic approach for every interview that you have. This can often help you maximize the experience so that you can soar above the competition.

5. The hiring manager will give me honest feedback.

Hiring managers or HR managers will rarely tell candidates why they have nixed them as a candidate. Unfortunately replaying the interview repeatedly over a few weeks or months isn't likely to give you the answer. A skillful interview coach can debrief with you after the interview and help you analyze what really happened. It is usually extremely difficult to analyze this on your own.

6. I've been on a thousand interviews.

Becoming adept at being interviewed is an acquired skill based on understanding your interpersonal strengths and weaknesses and the role they play during an interview.

7. I already have a job.

Interviewees make the same mistakes whether they are employed or unemployed. When the next opportunity arises it is wise to avoid the pitfalls you may have experienced in the past.
